Duane Henry Dreger
Duane H. Dreger’s practice focuses on patent and trademark prosecution and counseling, due diligence, infringement and invalidity studies, post-grant, re-examination and appellate practice before the USPTO, pre-suit investigations and the development and management of patent and trademark portfolios both in the United States and worldwide.
He has also represented clients in litigation, both in federal district courts and before the International Trade Commission in Section 337 proceedings.
His practice focuses on a wide range of technology areas including cryptography, mass data storage, networking, telecommunications, machine vision, business methods, mechanical engineering matters, automation machinery, financial and payment systems, hardware design and software based inventions.
Duane’s clients range from individuals and start up companies to large multi-national corporations. He has experience in helping clients grow and manage their patent and trademark portfolios.
Duane serves as an elected member of the Portland Water District Board of Trustees for the Town of Gorham, ME.
- Cognex Corporation v. Nikon Corporation (District of Massachusetts) and its related ITC proceeding In Re Certain Machine Vision Products
Represented Cognex Corporation both in the federal district court litigation as well as before the ITC in a Section 337 action. Both actions settled with a substantial payment to Cognex.
- Inter Partes Re-Examination of U.S. Patent No. 7,313,720 (Control No. 95/000,373)
Represented the Patent Owner in an inter partes re-examination proceeding initiated in relation to the Network Appliance v. Sun Microsystems, Inc. litigation. Successfully defended all original claims during the proceeding and obtained 150 additional claims.
